Is dilation neccessary?

Whether eye dilation is necessary for every eye exam depends on the reason for your particular eye examination, your overall health and your risk of eye diseases based on family history. When you come in for an eye exam, special drops are used that causes your pupil to widen which allows the doctor to see clearly a view of the back of... your eye. The dilation process can help your doctor diagnose or monitor many diseases and conditions of the eye, such as (but not limited to) diabetes, eye malignancies, high blood pressure, infectious diseases, macular degeneration, and retinal tears or detachments.
